On December 2nd and 3rd, 2016, Saint Petersburg will be hosting its first large-scale international professional design forum. The event will be part of the 5th St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum and will take place at the Stieglitz Academy, which is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year.
Creating a professional platform for domestic and foreign designers, representatives of specialized colleges, business, government bodies, and consumer groups; facilitating the exchange of expertise among countries; and stimulating cooperation between designers and manufacturers.
The Design Forum's official opening ceremony is expected to be attended by Olga Golodets (the Russian Government's Deputy Prime Minister), Alexey Aleshin (Head of Rostekhnadzor, Russia's Federal Service for Environmental, Technological, and Nuclear Supervision), Natalia Tretyak (First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation), Vladimir Yevtushenkov (Chairman of AFK Sistema), Sergei Movchan (Vice Governor of Saint Petersburg), and many other.
Invitations to join the Summit have been sent to Mihail Chemiakin (Russia/USA/France), Patrik Schumacher (Zaha Hadid Architects, UK), Daniel Libeskind (USA), Marcel Wanders (Holland), Arik Levy (France), Patricia Urquiola (Spain), and 150 other industry leaders.
Also invited to contribute and attend were leaders of specialized colleges in Russia, Europe, Asia, and America; practicing designers (leaders of design studios, chief designers from large corporations and holdings); representatives from business, manufacturing, and state corporations in Russia and other countries; state officials; and the media.
- A Round Table Design Summit, which will be attended by international design stars, government authorities, and representatives from business, specialized schools, and design associations. This one-of-a-kind event will take place on the first day of the Forum and will bring together 300 participants and special guests. The event will feature a large round table specially designed by the Stieglitz Academy's Furniture Design Department.
- The award ceremony for the First All-Russian Award for the "Contribution to the Development of Design in Russia". Starting in 2016, prizes will be awarded in seven major categories. The trophy for this award will be designed exclusively for the Design Forum.
- A design workshop. This three-hour-long event will allow participants to exchange case studies and share professional expertise in their relevant subject areas. The results of the workshop will be used to compile a number of suggestions that will be presented to the Russian Government.
- The Forum's learning and exhibition events. These will be divided into subjects and sections relevant to creative professionals, students, teachers, and the general public and will include a degree show, an exhibition of graduation projects, and celebrity lectures. The event schedule is flexible.
The Forum's Organizing Committee is inviting leading international design experts recognized in Russia and abroad, as well as forward-thinking individuals from manufacturing, business, specialized education, international professional associations, and government bodies, to join this event.
